# Privacy Policy for PAL: A Logbook (iOS)

Last updated: August 15, 2026

PAL Strategies Inc. ("PAL," "we," "us," or "our") provides PAL: A Logbook (the "App"). This Privacy Policy describes the App’s privacy practices.

This policy applies to the iOS App. It does not apply to the Abuse Log website, online shop, consulting services, or any other website service. Those services should have a separate website privacy policy that accurately describes their own cookies, forms, payment processing, accounts, and analytics, if any.

## Summary

PAL is a local-first documentation and organization app. In the current version:

- PAL does not require an account or sign-in.

- PAL does not operate a PAL cloud account, custom backend, web synchronization service, or multi-user collaboration service.

- PAL does not collect App data to PAL servers.

- PAL does not use advertising, tracking, advertising identifiers, or analytics SDKs.

- PAL does not sell, rent, or share your App data for advertising or marketing.

Information you create or import is stored in the App’s local storage on your device, subject to the choices you make about device backup, exports, sharing, and other Apple or third-party services.

## Information Processed Locally on Your Device

The App may store locally on your device the information you choose to create, import, or capture, including:

- log entries, notes, dates, classifications, and related records;

- names, contact information, relationship information, and profile photos you enter or choose to import;

- locations, addresses, map coordinates, and optional one-time location snapshots;

- photos, videos, audio recordings, documents, scans, transcripts, annotations, and related metadata;

- reports, export history, backup information, and integrity or verification information; and

- App preferences, including display-privacy settings and local security settings.

PAL processes this information on the device to provide the App’s requested functionality. PAL Strategies Inc. does not receive or have access to this locally stored App data merely because you use the App.

## Optional Device Permissions

The App requests access to sensitive device resources only when you choose a feature that needs it. You may decline a permission; the associated feature may then be unavailable.

- Camera: to take photos or videos and scan documents.

- Microphone: to record audio or video.

- Photos: to select media that you choose to import.

- Contacts: to select a contact that you choose to import. The App uses the system contact picker for that selection.

- Location While Using the App: to create an optional one-time location snapshot or check-in that you choose to save. The App does not request background location access.

- Speech Recognition: to create a transcript from audio or video when you choose transcription.

- Face ID / device authentication: to support the optional local App lock. PAL receives an authentication result, not your biometric template.

You can change permissions in iOS Settings at any time.

## Speech Recognition

In the current version, automatic transcription is configured to require on-device Apple speech recognition. If on-device recognition is unavailable for the selected language, transcription does not proceed; network fallback is disabled. Transcripts created by the feature are stored locally in the App.

Apple’s operating system and speech-recognition services are governed by Apple’s terms and privacy information. Future versions that offer a network-based transcription option will describe that option before use and update this policy and the App Store privacy disclosures as required.

## Storage and Security

PAL stores App records and managed media in its iOS app sandbox. Managed media is written using iOS file-protection controls designed to protect it when the device is locked. The optional local App passcode is stored as a derived credential in Apple Keychain; PAL does not store the readable passcode.

No security measure can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for securing your device, keeping iOS current, choosing a strong device passcode, and considering the sensitivity of information before capturing, importing, exporting, or sharing it.

## Backups, Exports, and Sharing

PAL does not upload your records to a PAL-operated cloud service. However, information can leave the App when you deliberately choose to do so.

- Local backups: PAL can create a restorable `.albackup` file. A full backup may contain the App database, managed media, non-secret settings, taxonomy state, and integrity information. It does not include local passcodes, biometric credentials, Keychain secrets, or similar security material.

- Exports and sharing: When you create an export, save it to Files, print it, or use the iOS share sheet, the selected export may be provided to the destination, recipient, or service you choose. Their privacy and security practices apply after the transfer.

- Device backups: Depending on your Apple device settings and Apple’s services, iOS may include App data in device backups. PAL does not control Apple’s backup service or have access to copies Apple maintains. You can manage device backup settings through Apple.

Review each export, backup destination, and recipient carefully. Exports and backups can contain highly sensitive information.

## Apple and Other Third-Party Services

The App relies on iOS and Apple-provided system frameworks to provide device features such as permissions, device authentication, photo selection, contact selection, location, document scanning, and on-device speech recognition. PAL does not embed third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs in the current App version.

If you send an export through email, a cloud drive, messaging app, printer, or another service, that service acts under its own terms and privacy policy. PAL is not responsible for the privacy practices of a destination you select.

## No Advertising, Tracking, or Sale of App Data

PAL does not use App data for behavioral advertising, cross-app tracking, marketing profiles, or sale of personal information. PAL does not use IDFA, advertising identifiers, or App analytics/telemetry SDKs in the current version.

## Retention, Deletion, and Your Choices

PAL keeps App data locally until you change, archive, delete, purge, restore, reset, or otherwise remove it through available App or device controls.

- You may edit or delete records and media using the App’s available controls.

- A deletion may first be reversible within an App recovery/archive workflow where that feature is available; permanent purge is a separate action.

- You may remove App data by using the App’s reset/delete controls or deleting the App, subject to the behavior of iOS and any backups or copies you created.

- You must separately delete any exports, shared copies, or backups stored outside the App.

Because PAL generally does not receive or store your App data on PAL servers, PAL cannot retrieve, correct, or delete the local information on your device for you. If you contact us, please do not send sensitive records unless you have decided that doing so is necessary and understand the risks of email or the selected communication method.

## Children

PAL is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the App. The App may be used to organize information that concerns children only at the direction and responsibility of the user and subject to applicable law. Users should use particular care with minors’ information and should not share it unless authorized and lawful.

## Legal, Safety, and Sensitive Information

The App is an organizational tool. It does not provide emergency services, legal advice, medical or mental-health treatment, investigation, authentication, or a determination about any person or event. You are responsible for ensuring that your capture, recording, import, retention, export, and sharing of information complies with applicable law, including consent, recording, privacy, employment, family, and evidence rules.

## Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy when the App’s practices or applicable requirements change. We will post the updated policy with a revised "Last updated" date. If a future version adds an account, PAL cloud storage, analytics, advertising, payments, a network transcription option, or another material data practice, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy disclosures before or when that change is made available, as applicable.
